Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India organized a one day round table consultation on ‘Food Price Management and Expansion of Pulses and Horticulture Crop Production in North Eastern Region’ in Guwahati, Assam. Discussion on pulse varieties
During the workshop, representatives of ICAR informed about the research progress, availability of pulses varieties suitable for the North-Eastern states and pulses seed centers in the region, which can be helpful in promoting pulses production in the states. The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare discussed the initiative of providing seed mini kits to assist the states in providing quality seeds to the farmers.
Meanwhile, Additional Chief Secretary, Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Department of the Government of Assam, Biswaranjan Samal told about the change in paddy production in the state by providing assistance to the farmers with MSP purchase. He urged all the participants to actively participate in the workshop.
Onion consignment reached Changsari station
Apart from this, Consumer Affairs Department Secretary Nidhi Khare said that the consignment of 840 metric tonnes of onion has reached Changsari station in Guwahati on November 5, 2024 through rail rake. Onion is being distributed by NCCF in various districts of Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and other north-eastern states. With this, onion will be available on a large scale in the north-eastern states and prices will come down. Bulk disposal of onions in major mandis has helped in increasing availability and reducing prices.
Representatives of all the states participating in the discussion talked about the challenges, support required and expressed their desire to work together in taking initiatives to increase the production of pulses and horticulture crops in the states as well as in state level price stabilization.
