Islamabad: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has instructed the Commerce Ministry to convene a meeting of the National Export Development Board next week to explore ways to increase exports, especially in manufactured goods.
This direction came during a meeting on Thursday, where the Prime Minister reviewed the progress of several projects within the ministry.
The Prime Minister was informed that manufactured goods, particularly engineering products, experienced negative growth in November, while exports of textiles and garments slowed down. The only product that saw growth in November was raw agricultural food items.
Shahbaz has asked for measures to boost rice exports. He reminded that there was an agreement during the recent visit of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to increase the export of Pakistani rice to Malaysia.
An official announcement from the Prime Minister’s Secretariat stated that the Prime Minister was informed about measures to enhance agricultural exports. It was mentioned that two memorandums of understanding have been signed with Russia for the exchange of agricultural goods.
Shahbaz stated that special economic zones would be activated by providing services such as hotels, hospitals, business schools, and others to promote national exports.
