Now NDDB has developed its indigenous technology, through which sex sorted semen will now be available at a very cheap rate.
Multinational companies sell sex sorted semen for Rs 800, whereas now NDDB will sell it to farmers and cattle herders for Rs 250. For artificial insemination, three doses of sex sorted semen are required. In such a situation, for the first three doses, farmers and cattle herders had to pay Rs 2400, but now the work will be done for only Rs 750.
Triple S technology is effective in breed improvement
There is a 70 to 80 percent chance of a female child being born from sex-sorted semen. At the same time, it is considered a very effective technique for breed improvement. Milk production in India has increased at the rate of 6 percent in the last 9 years, whereas in other countries the growth rate is 2 percent. With the use of sex sorted semen, milk production will increase further due to increase in the number of cows and buffaloes in the future. NDDB is manufacturing sex sorted semen under the ‘Make in India’ programme.

Sex sorted semen will be made available to cattle rearers and farmers through veterinary hospitals. On October 5, PM Narendra Modi inaugurated cheap doses of sex-sorted semen in Washim, Maharashtra. Apart from this, he also launched Genomic Chip for genetic improvement in livestock breeds. The chip used for cow is named Gau-chip and that for buffalo is named Mahishi chip.
The number of semen labs is being increased
Sex sorted semen lab was started in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand in 2019. In view of the successful experiment, a lab was also established in 2021 in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh.
