A typical rake is a complete goods train consisting of 40 wagons, which can supply about 1,700 tonnes of onion. However, the price of onion is almost 60 percent higher than a year ago.
According to The Mint report, a big truck can carry around 25 tonnes of onions and takes more time than a goods train to reach its destination. The first such consignment will be sent from Nashik to Guwahati on 14 October. The second consignment is made for Delhi. Similarly, it is being said that a third consignment will be sent to Ranchi. Currently the average retail price of onion in Guwahati is around Rs 70 per kg.
