The winner of the 2023 grant, Miss Zainab Adam, who is engaged in the smoked fish business, was recognized during a training program focused on skill acquisition for core members, sponsored by Synergy Impact Consultants Limited. This program took place in Kwara State and centered on adding value to agricultural products.
While speaking at a five-day training program for 50 selected core members in the state, NSPRI’s Executive Director, Professor Lateef Sanni, mentioned that post-harvest losses have led to increased prices for agricultural products.
Professor Sanni expressed concern over the 40-55% losses that occur after harvesting agricultural products in the country, noting that globally, about $200 million is lost. He stated that in Nigeria, annual post-harvest losses reach at least $5 billion.
He explained that the impact of post-harvest losses is reflected in the high prices of agricultural products.

“Economically, this would reduce income losses, allowing farmers, processors, loaders, and off-loaders to have more money. This pertains to products that can be stored for months and transported over long distances.”
