Justice Anirudh P. Mai issued a verbal order after the sub-charterer agreed to pay MEIR Commodities a claim of $250,984 as part of a settlement made outside of court. The judge noted that MEIR Commodities promised to withdraw the case once they received the payment and directed the authorities at the Deendayal (Kandla) port to release the vessel.
### Issues with Shipments
There are still two more arrest orders against the ship pending due to petitions filed by Farmart Services Private Limited and Farm Fresh International. MEIR Commodities approached the Gujarat High Court after the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) detained the ship and seized a shipment of approximately 460 tons of boiled rice, suspecting it was being exported as organic rice instead of white rice.
The DRI’s action followed a report from the business line regarding irregularities in organic rice exports, where some exporters were allegedly shipping white rice as organic. In addition to SW South Wind I, another vessel, MV Della, was also detained but was released by customs authorities and departed on October 19.
