There is good news for the farmers of the southern state Telangana. Government procurement of cotton has started here. Cotton is being purchased in the mandis at the minimum support price i.e. MSP. The central government has declared an MSP of Rs 7,121 per quintal for medium variety cake cotton and Rs 7,521 per quintal for long variety for the 2024-25 crop season, which is about 7 percent higher than last year.
Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) is purchasing cotton in Telangana. CCI has started procurement of fiber crop at minimum support price in Telangana last week. CCI Chairman cum Managing Director Lalit Kumar Gupta said that so far about 600 bales of cotton have been purchased at MSP in Telangana. “We expect huge arrivals after Diwali and we may have to procure in all major cotton growing states,” Gupta told BusinessLine. He said that CCI is ready for purchase.
