Ibadan’s Cassava Initiative
Agricultural cooperative company, Agbeiye Farms, has stated that it aims to use agriculture to eradicate poverty and ensure prosperity, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s administration priorities.
The company’s managing director, Mr. Oscar Sei Ayeleso, revealed during ‘Agbeiye Day’ at the ongoing Odua International Trade Fair in Ibadan that Agbeiye Farms is committed to making Nigeria a food-secure economy, focusing on the production of world-class food and cash crops.
According to him, Agbeiye Farms, a subsidiary of Cavista Holdings Limited, is inspired by its vision to become the most successful agro-allied company in Africa, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing agriculture to help the country overcome its current economic challenges.
He disclosed that through its Cassava Revolution program, the company has cultivated over 1,500 hectares of cassava farming land in four locations, with plans to expand to 10,000 hectares in nine communities within the next two years.
Ayeleso stated, “To meet our growing operational needs, we are investing in equipment capacity. Currently, we have over 25 tractors for clearing land, plowing, harrowing, ridging, planting, road construction, and building. By the end of the year, we expect to have more than 30 new tractors, four of which are set to arrive at the port this week. We are building a strong foundation in human capacity, tractor management, cassava planting, corporate governance, infrastructure, and system capabilities in preparation for our world-class agricultural processing plant.”
