After Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini assured to resolve all the issues of rice millers, Haryana Rice Millers Association has ended its strike. It has also been announced to resume paddy lifting in the markets across the state. In a meeting held with the representatives of Haryana Rice Millers Association on Thursday in Chandigarh, Naib Singh Saini, while listening to their various demands, said that most of the demands of the association are related to the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and the Central Government. He assured the representatives that all their demands and issues will be raised with the Central Government to ensure that farmers and traders do not face any inconvenience.
The association thanked the Chief Minister for this and assured that the paddy lifting process by the rice millers will be started with immediate effect. Regarding the request to increase the milling fee, the Chief Minister said that since the milling fee is determined by the Government of India, the state government will request the Central Government to increase it. If the milling fee is not increased by the Central Government, the State Government may consider giving additional bonus to the mill owners.
Dryage charge may increase
CM said that the request to increase the drayage charge from 0.5 percent to 1 percent will also be considered. Regarding out-turn ratio for hybrid paddy, the Chief Minister assured the association that the matter will be taken up with the Central Government with a recommendation to consider the demand of mill owners to reduce the out-turn ratio. IIT Kharagpur has been entrusted with the responsibility of a study along with representatives of FCI. The study team is likely to visit rice mills of Haryana in October/November 2024.
The Chief Minister said that adequate arrangements are being made for storage of 16 lakh metric tonnes of paddy in various FCI warehouses of the state. Currently 8 lakh metric tonnes of storage capacity is available, and an additional 8 lakh metric tonnes of storage capacity is expected to be ready by December 2024. At present, after the end of the rice millers’ strike, both the farmers and the state government officials have heaved a sigh of relief.
