This decision was taken in the party’s core committee meeting, which was presided over by SAD working president Balwinder Singh Bhundar. The committee said that the procurement and lifting of paddy coming to the markets is not being done on time. The committee also said that the AAP government has completely failed to coordinate with the Centre, due to which farmers are suffering. The committee said that such a situation has happened for the first time in the history of the state. At the same time, the committee asked Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to wake up from his slumber and ensure that the farmers do not face problems. Otherwise he should resign from his post.
According to a Business Standard report, farmers of Punjab on Sunday staged a statewide protest against the alleged slow procurement of paddy in the state. Farmers blocked the road
Meanwhile, Punjab farmers on Sunday blocked roads and staged a sit-in on railway tracks across the state against the alleged ‘slow’ paddy procurement campaign during the ongoing Kharif marketing season. Due to this, many trains were either canceled or diverted. According to Firozpur Railway Division, 17 trains have been badly affected, due to which two trains have been cancelled, while four were partially cancelled. Same number of trains have been diverted. Five trains are running behind schedule. A senior official of Firozpur division, on condition of anonymity, said that the Railways will continue to monitor the situation and efforts are being made to restore normalcy and minimize further disruptions.
