According to the report of ‘The Tribune’, the Union Minister estimated that this season the paddy production in Punjab will reach 212 lakh metric tonnes (LMT), out of which about 49.88 LMT paddy has been purchased. At present the total storage capacity in the state is 133.57 LMT including 34.34 LMT storage capacity owned by FCI and additional 99.23 LMT rented capacity. At present, 116.2 lakh metric tonnes of rice and 58.07 lakh metric tonnes of wheat (total 174.27 lakh metric tonnes) have been stored.
