There is good news for 4 lakh farmers of Kerala. The World Bank is going to run a new program to encourage the farmers here to adopt farming adapted to climate change and to encourage the entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector to launch value-added products in the market, which was launched last year. About 20 percent of India’s total agri-food exports go from Kerala. These include spices like cardamom, vanilla and nutmeg. Food parks will be expanded
The $200 million Kerala Climate Resilient Agri-Value Chain Modernization (KERA) project will help the state’s agriculture sector adapt to climate change. 400,000 farmers will benefit from better understanding of climate-friendly practices and agricultural solutions. Under the KERA project, work will be done to replant climate-friendly varieties of coffee, cardamom and rubber and to promote and expand food parks in rural areas of Kerala.
