प्याज़ की कीमतें गिरती हुई नहीं लग रही हैं। सरकार की सभी कोशिशों के बावजूद, प्याज़ की कीमतें ऊँची बनी हुई हैं। सरकार की एजेंसियों के जरिए प्याज़ की बिक्री हो रही है, लेकिन इसकी आपूर्ति कम है। खुदरा कीमतों में वृद्धि का असली कारण यह माना जा रहा है कि प्याज़ खुद मंडियों में ही अधिक कीमत पर बिक रहा है। यह स्थिति तब है जब बाजार में प्याज़ की आवक अच्छी है। इसलिए, जब तक प्याज़ की कीमतें बाजार में कम नहीं होती, तब तक खुदरा कीमतों में गिरावट की उम्मीद कम है।
2 दिसंबर को महाराष्ट्र में 48 मंडियों में प्याज़ की नीलामी हुई। इनमें से 28 मंडियों में अधिकतम थोक मूल्य 5000 रुपए प्रति क्विंटल और उससे अधिक था। जबकि 12 मंडियों में यह 6000 रुपए प्रति क्विंटल और उससे अधिक था। सोलापुर में एक ही दिन में रिकॉर्ड 58708 क्विंटल प्याज़ बिका, फिर भी अधिकतम थोक मूल्य 7000 रुपए प्रति क्विंटल दर्ज किया गया। प्रमुख बाजारों के मूल्य नीचे दिए गए तालिका में हैं।

फिलहाल, प्याज़ की कीमतें पिछले 5 वर्षों में सबसे ऊँची हैं। इसकी कीमतों में वृद्धि के कारण अचानक निर्यात का बढ़ना, निर्यात की मांग में बढ़ोतरी, खराब मौसम के कारण फसल के नुकसान और स्थानीय बाजार में मांग में वृद्धि है। कहा गया था कि नवंबर में सप्लाई में सुधार के कारण कीमतें गिरेंगी, लेकिन नवंबर गुज़र गया और दिसंबर आ गया, कीमतें वही बनी रहीं। व्यापारी कहते हैं कि प्याज़ की कीमतें मध्य दिसंबर से पहले गिरने की संभावना नहीं हैं।

Onion prices do not seem to be falling. Despite all the government efforts, onion remains tight regarding its price. Onions are being sold openly through government agencies, but their supply is inadequate. The real reason behind the increase in retail rates is said to be that onion is being sold at a higher price in the mandis itself. This is the situation when the arrival of onion in the markets remains strong. Therefore, let us assume that until onion becomes cheaper in the markets, there is little scope for the price to fall in retail.
On December 2, onion auction was held in 48 mandis of Maharashtra. Of these, the maximum wholesale price in 28 cases was Rs 5000 per quintal and above. Whereas in 12 mandis it was Rs 6000 per quintal and above. A record 58708 quintals of onion were sold in Solapur in a single day, yet the maximum wholesale price was recorded at Rs 7000 per quintal.
