He received this award for his long-standing contributions to strengthening the cooperative sector. Awasthi is only the second Indian to receive this honor, following up on Varghese Kurien, who spearheaded India’s White Revolution, making the country the world’s top producer of milk.
Awasthi’s dynamic leadership has led IFFCO to become the largest fertilizer producer and marketer in India, as well as the largest cooperative globally in terms of per capita GDP. The award was presented by ICA President Ariel Guarco during a special ceremony at the ongoing ICA Global Conference in New Delhi.
