सेरेन्डिब हॉर्टिकल्चर टेक्नोलॉजीज के अध्यक्ष, सीईओ डेलिप डी सिल्वा ने हाल ही में कोलंबो में रजत जयंती समारोह में कहा कि बागवानी निर्यात सालाना 16 मिलियन अमेरिकी डॉलर से अधिक होता है और उद्योग अगले पांच वर्षों में इसे दोगुना कर 30 मिलियन अमेरिकी डॉलर से अधिक कर सकता है।

“हमने रवांडा, कतर और ईरान में भी प्रयोगशालाएँ स्थापित की हैं। यह पहली बार है, जब किसी श्रीलंकाई कंपनी ने विदेश में बागवानी में परामर्श दिया है। कई श्रीलंकाई स्नातकों ने भी इन विदेशी उद्यमों में रोजगार प्राप्त किया है, ”डी सिल्वा ने कहा।

सेरेन्डिब हॉर्टिकल्चर टेक्नोलॉजीज (प्राइवेट) लिमिटेड ने श्रीलंका से हॉलैंड, डेनमार्क, जर्मनी, अमेरिका, ऑस्ट्रेलिया, न्यूजीलैंड, कनाडा, रवांडा, कतर और ईरान सहित कई देशों में फूलों की खेती के उत्पादों के निर्यात में 25 साल पूरे होने का जश्न मनाया।

कंपनी बोरालेसगामुवा स्थित प्रयोगशाला में मुख्य उत्पादन मोड के रूप में अत्याधुनिक तकनीक का उपयोग करती है, जिसे प्लांट टिशू कल्चर कहा जाता है।

डी सिल्वा ने कहा कि यह सत्ता में मौजूद सरकार के लिए समय पर आंखें खोलने वाला होगा अगर वह ऐसे निजी संस्थानों को सरकारी क्षेत्र के सहयोग से कृषि क्षेत्र को विकसित करने की सुविधा दे सके।

उन्होंने कहा कि उनके उत्पादन के लिए इनपुट 95% स्थानीय थे जबकि केवल 5% आयात किया गया था। कंपनी ने ग्रामीण महिलाओं को रोजगार देते हुए निर्यात के लिए 10 लाख पेड़ उगाने का प्रोजेक्ट शुरू किया है.

इस परियोजना में ग्रामीण महिलाओं की आजीविका में सुधार लाने और उन्हें निर्यात मूल्य श्रृंखला से जोड़ने की क्षमता है। डी सिल्वा ने कहा कि वे परियोजना के लिए धन जुटाने के रास्ते तलाश रहे हैं और इसका उपयोग मध्य पूर्व बाजार में भारी मांग को पूरा करने के लिए किया जाएगा।

कंपनी को कतर में पर्यावरण मंत्रालय के लिए एक क्षेत्रीय जैव प्रौद्योगिकी केंद्र स्थापित करने के लिए एक व्यापक व्यवहार्यता अध्ययन करने के लिए भी चुना गया था। इसके बाद रवांडा और ईरान में परामर्श दिया गया।

इनमें से प्रत्येक परामर्श में, विदेशी कर्मचारियों को प्रशिक्षित करने के लिए स्थानीय कर्मचारियों की भर्ती की गई थी। परामर्श के पूरा होने पर स्थानीय स्नातकों को उन देशों में रोजगार प्राप्त हुआ। इन परामर्शों के माध्यम से प्रौद्योगिकी हस्तांतरण को आय के स्रोत के रूप में पहचाना गया।

डोल इंक जैसे वैश्विक दिग्गजों ने टिशू कल्चर के माध्यम से केले और अनानास के पौधों की अपनी आवश्यकता का उत्पादन करने के लिए सेरेन्डिब हॉर्टिकल्चर से अनुबंध किया।

सेरेन्डिब हॉर्टिकल्चर ने मत्स्य पालन मंत्रालय के सहयोग से निर्यात के लिए जलीय पौधों का उत्पादन करने के लिए एशियाई विकास बैंक द्वारा वित्त पोषित एक प्रयोगशाला का डिजाइन और प्रबंधन भी किया। वर्तमान में कंपनी बोरालेसगामुवा में अपनी प्रयोगशाला संचालित करती है, जो केवल निर्यात के लिए प्रति वर्ष दो मिलियन से अधिक पौधों का उत्पादन करती है। इसमें देश के विभिन्न हिस्सों से 50 से अधिक लोग कार्यरत हैं। अपनी कुशल प्रबंधन प्रणालियों के कारण, कंपनी वैश्विक बाजार में चीन और भारत जैसे देशों के साथ प्रतिस्पर्धा करने में सक्षम है।

डी सिल्वा ने कहा, “प्रति वर्ग मीटर शुद्ध कारोबार के आधार पर, हमारे पास श्रीलंका और दुनिया की कई प्रयोगशालाओं में बेजोड़ अत्यधिक कुशल प्रणाली है।”

कंपनी के पास यूरोप में एक पेटेंट भी है। यह श्रीलंका की एकमात्र कंपनी है जिसके पास फूलों की खेती के उत्पाद के लिए यूरोप में पेटेंट है।

Recently, Delip D. Silva, the Chairman and CEO of Serendib Horticulture Technologies, announced at the Silver Jubilee event in Colombo that the annual export of horticulture exceeds $16 million and the industry could double this to over $30 million in the next five years.

“We have also established laboratories in Rwanda, Qatar, and Iran. This is the first time a Sri Lankan company has offered consultancy in horticulture abroad. Many Sri Lankan graduates have found employment in these foreign ventures,” Silva stated.

Serendib Horticulture Technologies (Private) Limited celebrated 25 years of exporting flower cultivation products to several countries, including the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Rwanda, Qatar, and Iran.

The company employs advanced technology as its main production method at its laboratory in Boralesgamuwa, known as plant tissue culture.

Silva remarked that it would be a timely eye-opener for the current government to facilitate the development of the agriculture sector by cooperating with such private institutions.

He mentioned that 95% of their inputs are sourced locally, with only 5% imported. The company has initiated a project to grow 1 million plants for export, providing employment to rural women.

This project has the potential to improve the livelihoods of rural women and connect them to the export value chain. Silva noted that they are looking for funding for the project, which will help meet the high demand in the Middle Eastern market.

The company was also selected to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study for establishing a regional biotechnology center for the Ministry of Environment in Qatar, followed by consultancy work in Rwanda and Iran.

In each of these consultancies, local staff were hired to train foreign employees. Upon completion of the consultancies, local graduates secured jobs in those countries. Technology transfer through these consultancies has been recognized as a source of income.

Global giants like Dole Inc. have contracted with Serendib Horticulture to produce banana and pineapple plants through tissue culture.

Serendib Horticulture has also designed and managed a laboratory funded by the Asian Development Bank for producing aquatic plants for export, in collaboration with the Ministry of Fisheries. Currently, the company operates its laboratory in Boralesgamuwa, annually producing over two million plants exclusively for export, employing over 50 individuals from various parts of the country. Due to its efficient management systems, the company is able to compete with countries like China and India in the global market.

Silva stated, “Based on net business per square meter, we have an unparalleled and highly efficient system in many laboratories in Sri Lanka and the world.”

The company also holds a patent in Europe, making it the only Sri Lankan company with a patent for flower cultivation products in that region.
