The Bong County office of the Liberia Agriculture Commodity Regulatory Agency (LACRA) appears to be in a neglected state, with management led by Director General Christopher D. Sancolo absent from the facility.
During a visit by our reporter, it was observed that grass has grown inside the facility, palm oil production equipment is rusty, and the premises are messy and unwelcoming.
Despite receiving government funding, the local office has been neglected by the LACRA management team. It has been reported that the lack of security personnel has led local residents to use the abandoned premises for inappropriate activities. Allegedly, security personnel appointed by the unit have left their positions due to payment issues.
Abraham Koli, a resident of the LPMC Road community in Gbaranga, stated, “The only security guard hired by the unit has reportedly refused to continue guarding the facility because LACRA officials denied payment.”
Koli reminisced about the golden days of LACRA, when it was known as LPMC, when it actively supported local production of palm oil and other cash crops in the county and Liberia.
He said, “That helped farmers earn more money at the time. But we no longer see that, which is unfortunate. The place has become desolate and truly turned into a bush.”
