The Best Tourism Village Competition is organized by the Union Ministry of Tourism with the objective of promoting community-based values and lifestyle while preserving cultural and natural resources. This year, a total of 900 villages from across the country took part in the competition and staked their claim to become the best. Out of these, 36 villages have been selected in different categories for the best tourism village.
Achievement of MP villages
This year, out of the three villages of MP selected as the best tourist villages, two villages are from Bundelkhand Region. Among these, Pranpur village is located in Chanderi block in Ashoknagar district, famous for handloom sarees. Whereas Ladpura Khas village is present in Orchha tehsil, famous as Ram Raja Nagari in Niwari district.
It is noteworthy that Pranpur village, located 4 km from Chanderi, has been developed as the country’s first Craft Handloom Tourism Village. In about 243 houses of weavers in this village, the work of making sarees using handlooms has been done for centuries. About 900 weavers make Chanderi style clothes on about 550 handlooms in the village.
