सरसों की फसल मुख्य तिलहन फसल है और इसका भारत की अर्थव्यवस्था में महत्वपूर्ण स्थान है। इस सिलसिले में, सरकार ने चंद्रशेखर आजाद कृषि और प्रौद्योगिकी विश्वविद्यालय, कानपुर (CSA) के तेल बीज विभाग द्वारा विकसित सरसों की एक नई किस्म “गोवर्धन” के बीजों के उत्पादन की अनुमति दी है। अब कानपुर की इस किस्म के बीज पूरे देश में बिक सकेंगे।
इस किस्म में तेल की मात्रा 39.6 प्रतिशत है।
विभाग के अध्यक्ष, डॉ. महक सिंह ने बताया कि यह निर्णय लखनऊ में कृषि सचिव की अध्यक्षता में राज्य बीज उप-समिति की 37वीं बैठक में लिया गया। भारत सरकार ने इस नई किस्म का नोटिफ़िकेशन 9 अगस्त को जारी किया था। उन्होंने कहा कि भारत सरकार से नोटिफ़िकेशन नंबर मिलने के बाद इस किस्म के बीज पूरे देश में बिक्री के लिए उपलब्ध होंगे। डॉ. महक सिंह ने आगे बताया कि गोवर्धन बीज की फसल का पकने का समय 120 से 125 दिन है। इसमें तेल की मात्रा 39.6 प्रतिशत होगी, इस किस्म की बिजाई 20 नवंबर तक की जा सकती है और उत्पादन 18 से 20 क्विंटल प्रति हेक्टेयर होगा।

Chairman of the department, Dr. Mehak Singh said that this decision was taken in the 37th meeting of the State Seed Sub-Committee under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary Agriculture in Lucknow. He said that after receiving the notification number from the Government of India, the seeds of the said species will be available for sale in the entire country. Dr. Mehak Singh further told that the ripening time of Govardhan seed crop is 120 to 125 days. The oil content in it will be 39.6 percent, the sowing time of the variety will be till 20th November and the production will be 18 to 20 quintals per hectare.
