हाल ही में एक रिपोर्ट में कहा गया कि देश की 30 प्रतिशत मिट्टी खराब हो चुकी है। इसका मतलब है कि लगभग एक तिहाई देश की मिट्टी बीमार हो गई है। मिट्टी की उर्वरता खो गई है। अगर फसल मिल रही है तो रासायनिक उर्वरकों की वजह से ही। ये रासायनिक उर्वरक मिट्टी को नष्ट करने का कारण हैं। इनमें पाए जाने वाले रसायनों ने मिट्टी की जैविक और ऑर्गेनिक क्षमता को कमजोर कर दिया है। यहां तक कि पहले किसानों के दोस्त माने जाने वाले केंचुए भी मिट्टी में दिखाई नहीं दे रहे हैं। इस मिट्टी के खराब होने को ध्यान में रखते हुए, सरकार ने प्राकृतिक खेती मिशन की घोषणा की है। यह मिशन मिट्टी को सुधारने का एक बड़ा प्रयास साबित हो सकता है।
