Mudassir says, last year he got inspired after watching a video on saffron cultivation and got involved in it. Mudassir told that he contacted one of his friends in Pampore for saffron tubers. “However, initial efforts yielded disappointing results due to lack of experience in this area,” he said. This year, Bhat tried with more caution and advice, which gave him much better results. “I have cut saffron flowers at least seven times in the last few weeks,” he said.
Mudassir encourages farmers across Kashmir to cultivate saffron, even in small farms, so that they can know its benefits, which many are still unaware of. Their success has made many local farmers interested in cultivating saffron themselves next year. Many farmers have been inspired and have agreed to cultivate saffron in the next season.
