ओडिशा का रायगढ़ जिला नक्सल प्रभावित रहा है। यहां नकली के कहने पर लोग भांग की खेती करते थे और इससे अवैध आय कमाते थे। चंद्रपुर ब्लॉक के कुसुमगुरी गांव को इस काम के लिए जाना जाता था। इस नक्सल प्रभावित क्षेत्र में पहले बड़े पैमाने पर भांग की खेती होती थी, लेकिन अब स्थिति बदल गई है। अब इस क्षेत्र में सब्जियों की खेती बड़े पैमाने पर की जा रही है, जिससे किसानों के जीवन में सुधार आया है।

इसी तरह, एक अन्य किसान बिजय कुमार कदमारी ने ‘ओडिशा टीवी’ से कहा, “यह एक बहुत लाभदायक व्यवसाय है। मैंने पहले वर्ष में 40,000-50,000 रुपये कमाए।” पहले ये किसान अपनी आजीविका के लिए अवैध भांग की खेती पर निर्भर थे, लेकिन पुलिस की कार्रवाई और गिरफ्तारी के डर के चलते उन्होंने इस काम को छोड़ दिया और अब एनजीओ की मदद से bottle gourd की खेती में सफलता के नए अध्याय लिख रहे हैं।
डंगासरदा सरपंच भीमा जंगरंगा ने कहा, “लगातार पुलिस कार्रवाई के बाद, वे (गांव वाले) भांग की खेती से दूर हो गए हैं। अब उनका संबंध नक्सलियों से नहीं है।” एनजीओ के सदस्य एस. दिनेश कुमार ने कहा, “हम किसानों को bottle gourd की खेती के लिए आवश्यक प्रशिक्षण दे रहे हैं और इसके माध्यम से हम उनके जीवन में बदलाव लाने का प्रयास कर रहे हैं।” चंद्रपुर के बीडीओ अक्षय कुमार मलिक ने कहा, “Bottle gourd की खेती एक लाभप्रद व्यवसाय है। इस क्षेत्र के किसानों ने अपनी आजीविका बढ़ाने में सफलता हासिल की है।”

Farmers benefit from farming
15 farmers of this village started bottle gourd cultivation for livelihood and they are getting good success in it. These farmers say that the kind of life they wanted to live, they are now able to fulfill that dream. Bottle gourd cultivation is helping a lot in this. Regarding this, farmer Manmohan Sarka said, “Earlier we used to do farming ourselves. Now with the help of NGOs, we are learning modern techniques and growing bottle gourd crop in large quantities from a small piece of land.”

Speaking similarly, another farmer Bijay Kumar Kadmari told ‘Odisha TV’, “This is a very profitable business. I have earned Rs 40,000-50,000 in the first year.” Earlier these farmers were dependent on illegal hemp cultivation for their livelihood. However, due to fear of police action and arrest, the people of the village left this work and now with the help of NGO they are writing success story in bottle gourd cultivation.
Dangasarda sarpanch Bhima Jangaranga said, “After continuous police action, they (villagers) have distanced themselves from ganja cultivation. They are no longer associated with the Maoists.” S Dinesh Kumar, member of the NGO, said, “We are giving necessary training to the farmers about bottle gourd cultivation and through this we are bringing change in their lives by making them self-reliant.” Chandrapur BDO Akshay Kumar Malik said, “Gourd gourd cultivation is a profitable business. Farmers in this area have been successful in increasing their livelihood.”
