Throughout the school year, there is a project where students from Bo Island and Irwin are working together to learn about growing crops.
Fifth-grade student Maia Hodgson mentioned that she has already learned some things from Senator Gershaw School and her home garden.
Hodgson stated, “In our school garden, we are growing pumpkins, eggplants, beans, peas, and I think we were also growing watermelons.”
“At home, we grew pumpkins and basically the same things.”
Farmer Nikole Neubauer discussed the indigenous tradition of planting three companion crops during a presentation with the students.
