As spring approaches, the Council’s Resource Recovery team will be offering free compost known as Tronpost on Saturday, November 2, while supplies last.
Tronpost is locally produced compost made from food scraps and green waste collected from Hamilton’s curbside.
Tania Herman, the Director of Operations and Maintenance at Hamilton City Council, mentioned that the Tronpost program aims to promote the benefits of using the curbside food scrap bins.
“Last year, we provided 9,000 kilograms of Tronpost. We are hosting the free Tronpost program again this year to raise awareness of how our curbside food scraps are reused and transformed into compost that enriches gardens,” said Herman.
Residents of Hamilton managed to divert 4,409,000 kilograms of food scraps from landfills between October 2023 and September 2024 by using their curbside food scrap bins. This amounts to roughly the weight of 735 elephants and is over the 3,932,000 kilograms saved last year.
