Representative Toby Tiangco has called on local government units (LGUs) to enhance the implementation of the Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) to support government efforts to combat hunger and poverty.

“We cannot underestimate the critical role that LGUs play in implementing programs aimed at zero hunger, food and nutrition security, and sustainable agriculture. Together, with partner organizations, our united effort will ensure that no Filipino goes hungry,” Tiangco stated.

Tiangco mentioned that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. recently signed a joint memorandum circular that brings together national agencies and international organizations to make zero hunger a reality in the Philippines.

“We want to encourage all LGUs to support the implementation of the EPAHP and promote the government’s efforts to fight hunger,” Tiangco said.

Through the EPAHP, Tiangco indicated that “the government can provide loan and insurance assistance and connect community-based organizations (CBOs) directly to government feeding programs.”

“By May 2024, this initiative has generated over P200 million in sales and contracts between 122 CBOs and government feeding programs. We believe that with proper support from LGUs, we can achieve even more in the coming months,” he added.

To ensure proper implementation and monitoring of the programs, a 14-member EPAHP steering committee will be formed, chaired by the Secretary of Social Welfare and Development.

Solon stated, “President Marcos wants a necessary framework to ensure the effective implementation of all measures under the EPAHP.” He also noted that the program will undergo quarterly monitoring and evaluation to regularly assess whether resources are being used for activities that achieve the intended goals of the EPAHP.
