पंजाब के भरे हुए गोदामों में जगह बनाने के लिए, भारतीय खाद्य निगम (FCI) अक्टूबर के अंत तक 15 लाख टन चावल भेजेगा। यह जानकारी राज्य के खाद्य और नागरिक आपूर्ति मंत्री लाल चंद काटरूचाक ने शुक्रवार को दी। राज्य में लगभग 212 लाख टन की भंडारण क्षमता है, जिसमें से करीब 80 प्रतिशत गेहूं, धान और पिछले सीजन का चावल भरा हुआ है। काटरूचाक ने बताया कि 31 दिसंबर तक राज्य के गोदामों से लगभग 40 लाख टन चावल 20 विशेष मालगाड़ियों, कंटेनरों और ट्रक के जरिए निकाला जाएगा, जिससे आगामी धान की फसल के लिए पर्याप्त स्थान तैयार किया जा सकेगा।

To free up space in the filled warehouses of Punjab, Food Corporation of India (FCI) will send out 15 lakh tonnes of rice by the end of October. State Food and Civil Supplies Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak gave this information on Friday. The state has about 212 lakh tonnes of storage capacity, of which about 80 per cent is filled with wheat, paddy and rice procured last season. Kataruchak said that by December 31, about 40 lakh tonnes of rice will be moved out of the state’s warehouses in 20 special goods trains, containers and trucks, which will create adequate storage for the upcoming paddy crop.
Punjab is expecting a bumper crop of 185 lakh tonnes of paddy this season, after processing which will yield about 120 lakh tonnes of rice. The minister further said that more warehouses are being constructed on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode and by March 2025, Punjab will have 90 lakh tonnes of additional storage space. Earlier this week, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had written a letter to the Union Ministry of Food and Public Distribution asking that some old grains be taken out so that adequate space could be ensured for new procurement.

Procurement of Basmati rice started
According to Hindustan Times report, paddy harvesting has already started in the state. The Punjab government had also considered making preparations to keep stock of fresh paddy in the premises of rice mill owners, but it was opposed. Kataruchak asked farmers to avoid blocking railway tracks as it would hamper transportation of food grains. The minister also informed that commission agents have started purchasing Basmati rice from Friday.
Lifting of 39.90 metric tons of paddy
At the same time, yesterday the news came out that there is a strike of commission agents and market workers going on in Punjab. Meanwhile, on Friday, state agencies purchased 752 metric tons of paddy.
