आयुक्त प्रभु एन सिंह ने कहा कि सड़क पर नियमित यातायात वाहनों पर रिफ्लेक्टर या पीली बत्तियाँ होने से उनकी दृष्टि दूर से दिखाई देती है, लेकिन गन्ना किसानों की बुग्गियों, बैल गाड़ियों, ट्रॉलियों आदि पर रिफ्लेक्टर नहीं हैं। गन्ना लदी गाड़ियों पर रिफ्लेक्टर ढक जाते हैं। इस वजह से, जब गन्ने से भरी गाड़ियाँ खरीद स्थलों या मिलों के गेट के पास से गुजरती हैं, तो वे दूर से दिखाई नहीं देती हैं, जिससे तेज़ चलते वाहनों के साथ दुर्घटनाएँ हो सकती हैं।
इन संभावनाओं को रोकने के लिए, ट्रैक्टर-ट्रॉलियों के दोनों कोनों पर 6-6 इंच की लाल और पीली फ्लोरोसेंट पेंट लगाने तथा ट्रकों के सामने और पीछे के बम्पर पर तथा गन्ना परिवहन के लिए उपयोग की जाने वाली बुग्गियों के पीछे रिफ्लेक्टर पट्टियाँ लगाने की अनिवार्यता दी गई है। लोहे की पट्टी पर भी लाल और पीली फ्लोरोसेंट पेंट लगाना आवश्यक किया गया है।

आयुक्त ने बताया कि विभागीय अधिकारियों को अपने-अपने जिलों में सहायक परिवहन अधिकारियों, राजस्व और पुलिस अधिकारियों और चीनी मिल प्रबंधकों के साथ बैठकें आयोजित करने के लिए निर्देशित किया गया है। इन बैठकों में गन्ना परिवहन में उपयोग होने वाले वाहनों में रिफ्लेक्टर पट्टियाँ लगाने के मुद्दे पर चर्चा की जाएगी। एक अभियान चलाया जाएगा ताकि सत्र के दौरान दो से तीन बार यह कार्य किया जा सके और इन वाहनों पर रिफ्लेक्टर स्थापित किए जा सकें। सभी चीनी मिलें इस कार्य को अपने क्षेत्र में अनिवार्य रूप से सुनिश्चित करेंगी।
