The York region is home to the fourth-largest food and beverage processing sector in Canada.
The Regional Municipality of York has released its Agriculture and Agri-Food Strategy for 2024 to 2027.
“The York Regional Council is committed to supporting the agriculture and agri-food sector as an important part of York Region’s economic vitality,” said Wayne Emmerson, the President and CEO of York Region, in a news release. “York Region is home to Canada’s fourth-largest food and beverage processing sector, and this new strategy focuses on sustaining and supporting the entire local agri-food sector.”
Following the initial success of the Agriculture and Agri-Food Strategy approved in 2017, the goals guiding the 2024 to 2027 strategy include:
- Strengthening business, entrepreneurship, and innovation services by enabling innovation, supporting skill development, and attracting workers to the region.
- Enhancing the already resilient and diverse value chain by facilitating ongoing development and connections; continuing to build relationships with equity-deserving and Indigenous communities; and promoting climate resilience in the region.
