मालदीव 2026 की शुरुआत में अपने कृषि आर्थिक क्षेत्र पर काम शुरू करने के लिए तैयार है, एक परियोजना जिसका उद्देश्य देश की खाद्य सुरक्षा को बढ़ाना और आयातित भोजन पर निर्भरता को कम करना है। यह पहल मार्च 2024 में MIDFZ और चाइना हार्बर इंजीनियरिंग कंपनी लिमिटेड (CHECL) के बीच हस्ताक्षरित एक समझौते का अनुसरण करती है। इस क्षेत्र में आवश्यक बुनियादी ढाँचा बनाने के लिए 100 हेक्टेयर भूमि का पुनर्ग्रहण शामिल होगा।

राज्य व्यापार संगठन (एसटीओ) और एमआईडीएफजेड के प्रबंध निदेशक, शिमद इब्राहिम ने बताया कि परियोजना के लिए एक बड़े, निरंतर क्षेत्र को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए भूमि पुनर्ग्रहण को चुना गया था। उन्होंने कहा, “छोटे द्वीप परियोजना को प्रभावी बनाने के लिए आवश्यक जगह उपलब्ध नहीं करा सके।” इस क्षेत्र में श्रमिकों के लिए एक प्रशिक्षण केंद्र और आवास सुविधाएं भी होंगी।

कृषि आर्थिक क्षेत्र विभिन्न प्रकार की सब्जियां, फल उगाने और पोल्ट्री और अंडे के उत्पादन पर ध्यान केंद्रित करेगा। इस परियोजना का लक्ष्य देश की खाद्य जरूरतों के एक महत्वपूर्ण हिस्से को संबोधित करना और आयात पर निर्भरता को कम करना है, जिससे अंततः उपभोक्ता कीमतें कम होंगी।

कृषि गतिविधियों के अलावा, विकास में आवश्यक बुनियादी ढांचे जैसे यात्री और माल ढुलाई टर्मिनल, एक कृषि औद्योगिक पार्क और अन्य आवश्यक सुविधाएं शामिल होंगी। ये अतिरिक्त परियोजना की दीर्घकालिक सफलता का समर्थन करेंगे और आगे की आर्थिक वृद्धि को प्रोत्साहित करने में मदद करेंगे।

आर्थिक विकास और व्यापार मंत्री मोहम्मद सईद ने मालदीव में सबसे अधिक खपत होने वाली लगभग 80% सब्जियों और फलों की खेती करने की परियोजना की क्षमता पर जोर दिया। कृषि और पशु कल्याण मंत्री डॉ. ऐशथ रमीला ने यह भी कहा कि सरकार ने परियोजना पूरी होने के बाद खाद्य आयात में कमी पर प्रकाश डालते हुए क्षेत्र के लिए प्रमुख फसलों की पहचान की है।

इस परियोजना से निवेशकों को आकर्षित करने, स्थानीय उत्पादन को बढ़ावा देने और बाजार में उपलब्ध खाद्य उत्पादों की श्रृंखला में विविधता लाने के द्वारा मालदीव के कृषि क्षेत्र को पुनर्जीवित करने की उम्मीद है। आयात पर निर्भरता कम होने से, यह क्षेत्र विदेशी मुद्रा बचाने में मदद करेगा और देश की समग्र आर्थिक लचीलेपन में योगदान देगा।

The Maldives is set to start working on its agricultural economic sector in early 2026. This project aims to enhance the country’s food security and reduce its dependence on imported food. The initiative follows an agreement signed in March 2024 between MIDFZ and China Harbour Engineering Company Limited (CHECL). It will involve reclaiming 100 hectares of land to create the necessary infrastructure for this sector.

Shimad Ibrahim, the Managing Director of the State Trading Organization (STO) and MIDFZ, explained that land reclamation was chosen to ensure a large, continuous area for the project. He mentioned that smaller islands couldn’t provide the space needed to make the project effective. The area will also include a training center and housing facilities for workers.

The agricultural economic sector will focus on growing various vegetables and fruits, as well as poultry and egg production. The project’s goal is to meet a significant part of the country’s food needs and reduce reliance on imports, which will ultimately lower prices for consumers.

Besides agricultural activities, the development will include essential infrastructure like passenger and freight terminals, an agricultural industrial park, and other necessary facilities. These additions will support the long-term success of the project and help encourage further economic growth.

Economic Development and Trade Minister Mohamed Saeed highlighted the project’s potential to cultivate about 80% of the fruits and vegetables consumed in the Maldives. Additionally, Agriculture and Animal Welfare Minister Dr. Aishath Ramila noted that the government has identified key crops for the sector, emphasizing the reduction of food imports once the project is completed.

This project aims to revive the agricultural sector in the Maldives by attracting investors, promoting local production, and diversifying the food products available in the market. Reducing dependence on imports will also help save foreign currency and contribute to the overall economic resilience of the country.
