Haryana’s Animal Husbandry and Dairying Department has stepped up vigil to prevent any possible outbreak of foot and mouth disease affecting sheep and goats in the neighboring state of Himachal Pradesh. For this, the state government issued an advisory on Friday, in which an update has been given on the situation in Haryana and the preventive measures being implemented. A department spokesperson said that although no cases have been reported in the state, the department is taking proactive steps to protect animals from the disease.
According to The Tribune report, the department has issued instructions to exercise more caution, especially in the areas bordering Himachal. Deputy Directors have been instructed to ensure availability of potassium permanganate, hydrogen peroxide and povidone iodine in all government veterinary hospitals and government veterinary dispensaries across the state. The department advised herders and farmers to regularly inspect their animals and remain alert for signs of lameness, putrid odor or abnormalities in the hooves.
