सोमवार को जकार्ता में बोलते हुए, उन्होंने कहा कि समझौते को पूरा करने की समय सीमा को पीछे धकेल दिया गया है क्योंकि इंडोनेशिया और यूरोपीय संघ अभी भी कई मामलों पर एक ही पृष्ठ पर नहीं हैं।

Jakarta (Antara) – The new Trade Minister, Budi Santoso, has confirmed that he will work to expedite the negotiations of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA).

Speaking in Jakarta on Monday, he mentioned that the deadline for completing the agreement has been pushed back, as Indonesia and the European Union are still not aligned on several issues.

He stated, “It is crucial for us to aim for a mutually beneficial conclusion. Therefore, we are still studying the agreement in hopes of finding a solution as soon as possible.”

Santoso emphasized that he is against rushing the negotiation process for both parties involved.

“Reaching a common consensus is not easy,” he noted, stressing the importance of ensuring Indonesia does not end up with a harmful deal.

Earlier, Jatmiko Bris Wijayaksono, the Director General for International Trade Negotiations at the Trade Ministry, reported that policy disagreements have stalled the IEU-CEPA discussions.

He said, “We are still trying to identify a mutually agreed middle ground on several policy issues.”

Wijayaksono also described the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) as a major hurdle that has prevented both parties from finalizing the long-awaited economic agreement.

He added that the Indonesian government is advocating for the EU to allow several agricultural products from Indonesia into European markets to resolve issues related to the EUDR.

However, the official highlighted that Indonesia and the EU have agreed on several topics, such as gradual tariff reductions, trade facilitation, investment, and transparency.
