The Oyo State Cassava Growers Association has condemned attempts by certain individuals to launch a media campaign against Psaltry International Limited, a cassava processing company located in the Ado Awaye area of the Iseyin local government area.
Responding to a publication titled “Exclusive: Why We Are No Longer Selling Cassava to Psaltry – Oke Ogun Cassava Farmers,” the president of the Cassava Outgrowers Association of Oyo State, Alhaji Suleiman Kehinde, described the publication as the actions of business competitors who feel threatened by the company’s global achievements.
In a conversation with journalists alongside the traditional ruler of the Allied village where the company operates, Alhaji Gazali Alayide, Kehinde stated that some farmers have been manipulated by certain groups who export cassava and see the processing company as a threat.
He explained that Psaltry began its operations by providing agricultural inputs and free land to the Allied village and brought cassava producers together to access loans, with the understanding that they would process their crops and repay the loans under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that remains valid today.
“The company does not care about the futile attempts of some individuals to tarnish the good image of Psaltry International Limited through such gutter journalism. These individuals commissioned a journalist to publish a one-sided report without respecting media principles,” he said.
“Psaltry has been recognized as a leading cassava processing plant in Africa not just today; it has empowered farmers with land and inputs and facilitated access to loans for agricultural activities, understanding that this would serve as a deposit point for processing our yields. However, some farmers have broken their loan repayment agreements with banks, and we, as a company, are currently paying over N200 million to the banks.”
