केन्द्रीय कैबिनेट ने बुधवार को प्रधान मंत्री गरीब कल्याण अन्न योजना (PMGKAY) और अन्य कल्याणकारी योजनाओं के तहत जुलाई 2024 से दिसंबर 2028 तक मुफ्त फोर्टिफाइड चावल की आपूर्ति को जारी रखने की मंजूरी दी है। इस निर्णय की जानकारी देते हुए केन्द्रीय मंत्री अश्विनी वैष्णव ने बताया कि इससे एनीमिया और सूक्ष्म पोषक तत्वों की कमी को कम करने की उम्मीद है। इस पर कुल खर्च 17,082 करोड़ रुपये होगा, जिसमें 100 प्रतिशत फंडिंग केन्द्रीय सरकार द्वारा की जाएगी।

Giving information about this cabinet decision, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that it is expected that this initiative will reduce anemia and micronutrient deficiency. The total expenditure on this will be Rs 17,082 crore, of which 100 percent funding will be done by the Central Government.
The government has already extended the duration of this scheme. Under this scheme, more than 81 crore people of the country are given free ration. It was started in March 2020 during the Covid pandemic. Actually, in view of the lockdown, the government had started this scheme to provide free grains to the poor.
